CASBO thrives on the dedication of its members and volunteers. Every year, we celebrate the exceptional individuals who make a profound impact on CASBO and, ultimately, on the students and communities we serve.

While some of our award recipients are de facto in nature, most of them are chosen from nominations by you, our network of school business professionals. Awards

Section Member of the Year Awards

CASBO presents these awards to one  individual member* from each of its seven sections who is a dedicated CASBO leader that made a significant contribution to school business management at the section level.

Award Criteria:

• Nomination by the appropriate section president (who must not be the nominee themselves).

• Section-wide reputation for exceptional service within CASBO.

• Dedication should be evident through countless hours and personal resources generously invested in the section’s success.

Associate Member of the Year Award

CASBO presents this award to an outstanding associate member who goes above and beyond, making a significant statewide impact. This award celebrates individuals whose dedication and selfless service has benefitted the CASBO community and California schools.

Award Criteria:

• One nominee per section, nominated by another CASBO member.

• Service that has had a demonstrably statewide impact, benefiting the entire CASBO membership.

• Statewide reputation for service within the association, serving as an exemplar for other associate members.

• A commitment characterized by dedication and significant personal sacrifice.

Pinnacle Award

CASBO presents this award to an individual member* who, through personal sacrifice for the benefit of the entire CASBO membership, has served in a leadership capacity and earned a statewide reputation for that service. As part of this recognition, the recipient is awarded with honorary lifetime membership benefits.

Award Criteria:

• Nomination by someone other than the nominee.

• Longtime service in a leadership capacity that has had a statewide effect with a quality and scope of work that transcends local and regional boundaries, benefiting the entire CASBO membership.

• Statewide reputation for service within the association that serves as a model for other CASBO members.

• Personal sacrifice of countless hours and personal resources to the association for the benefit of all CASBO members.

Smart Business Award

CASBO presents this award to an individual member* for innovative, creative and meaningful contribution to the improvement of the profession and the efficiency of school districts.

Award Criteria:

• Nomination by someone other than the nominee.

• Outstanding practices and ideas that result in significant contributions to school entities or the profession of school business management.

• Program or innovation developed and successfully implemented by California school business professional(s) employed at a local education agency.

• Program or innovation with statewide effect, or potential effect, on the business practices of other school districts around the state.

Non-Nomination Awards

Presidential Service Award

CASBO presents this award to its immediate past president for exemplary service to CASBO. As part of this recognition, the recipient is awarded with honorary lifetime membership benefits.

Schuyler C. Joyner Award

CASBO Associate Members present this award to an individual member* who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, service and commitment to school business and to the association. As part of this recognition, an annual scholarship of $1,000 for five years is awarded to the high school or community college of the recipient’s choice.

Commitment to Education Award

CASBO presents this award to a non-member who has improved public education and the lives of school children throughout California in recognition of a lifetime of professional achievement in school business management.

*A “CASBO individual member” is anyone who has been a member of CASBO through any of the following membership types: Organizational Subscriber Employee Member, Honorary Life Member, Retiree Member or Career Builder Member.
